Agentic AI

Agentic AI Development Services

Agentic AI development builds software that can plan a multi-step task, use approved tools and carry it out with limited supervision. NextCTL designs these systems with scoped permissions, activity logs, evaluations and human approval at the points that matter, and connects them to your data and systems.

Compare

Agentic AI vs AI agents vs automation

AutomationAI agentAgentic AI system
PathFixed stepsOne task, a few choicesPlans its own steps toward a goal
ToolsPreset connectionsA small set of approved toolsMany approved tools, chosen as needed
Good forRepeatable, predictable workDefined jobs such as triage or follow-upVariable, multi-step work across systems
OversightRules and alertsApproval on key actionsApproval gates, logs, limits and evaluations

Use the simplest option that does the job. Many processes need only AI automation or a single AI agent. We recommend agentic design only where the task needs it.

Who it is for

Who this is for

  • Operations teams with processes that cross three or more systems and need judgement along the way.

  • Technology leaders who want AI to do work, not only answer questions.

  • Teams that already tried a chatbot or simple automation and hit its limits.

Not a fit if the process is fixed and predictable. Standard automation is simpler to run and easier to trust. Also not a fit if no one can own and review the system after launch.

What we build

Agentic AI systems we build

Guardrails

Guardrails: how we keep agentic AI under control

These are practices NextCTL builds into agentic projects. They are engineering controls, not certifications.

  • Scoped permissions: each agent gets only the access its job needs, and nothing more.

  • Approval steps: actions with real consequences, such as sending money, deleting records or contacting a customer, wait for a person.

  • Activity logs: each step, tool call and decision is recorded so you can review what happened and why.

  • Evaluations: we test the system on real cases before launch and after every change.

  • Limits: caps on steps, time and spend, and a stop switch.

  • Fallbacks: when the agent is unsure, it hands the task to a person with context.

  • Monitoring: live tracking of completion, errors and cost, with a regular review.

Deliverables

What you receive

  • A production agentic workflow connected to your systems.

  • A permissions map: what each agent can read and do.

  • Activity logs and a dashboard for monitoring.

  • An evaluation suite and results, which can be rerun after changes.

  • Documentation and a runbook for your team, including how to pause the system.

  • A report on completion and hand-off rates once live, measured on your own work.

How it works

How an agentic AI project runs

  1. Step 1

Map the process, its systems, exceptions and who approves what.

  2. Step 2

Decide which steps the agent may do alone, which need approval and which stay with people.

  3. Step 3

Build a prototype on a small slice of the process.

  4. Step 4

Test on real cases, including edge cases and failure paths.

  5. Step 5

Add integrations, permissions, logging and limits.

  6. Step 6

Launch to a small group, review the logs, widen access gradually.

Technology

Technology we work with

  • Language models with tool use and structured outputs.

  • Orchestration frameworks for single and multi-agent workflows.

  • Retrieval over your documents with vector databases (see RAG and LLM development).

  • MCP servers and API connectors for tool access (see MCP server development).

  • Evaluation harnesses, tracing and observability for every step.

  • Queues, schedulers and human-approval interfaces.

  • Containerised cloud deployment.

What is agentic AI development?

Agentic AI development is the design and build of AI systems that plan multi-step tasks, choose approved tools and act toward a goal with limited supervision. It covers the agent logic, tool access, permissions, human approval steps, logging and testing. The goal is a system that completes real work and stays within limits you set.

How is agentic AI different from AI agents and automation?

Automation follows fixed steps. An AI agent handles a defined job with a few choices. An agentic system plans its own steps across many tools to reach a goal, so it needs stronger controls. We recommend the simplest option that fits. Many processes need only automation or one agent, not a full agentic system.

Which business processes suit agentic AI?

Processes that vary from case to case and cross several systems suit it best. Examples include exception handling, account research, case preparation, onboarding checks and multi-system reconciliation. Fixed, high-volume tasks are usually better served by plain automation. We review your process with you before recommending an agentic design.

How do guardrails and human approval work?

Each agent receives scoped permissions. Actions with real consequences wait for a person to approve. Every step is logged, limits cap steps and spend, and a stop switch pauses the system. We test on real cases before launch and after changes. These are engineering practices we build, not certifications.

What does agentic AI development cost?

Cost depends on how many systems are involved, how variable the process is, how much testing it needs and who must approve actions. We do not publish prices. After a scoping call we give a phased proposal, often starting with a small slice of the process, so you can judge value before committing more.

Can it work with our existing software and APIs?

Yes. Agents connect to your CRM, ERP, help desk, databases and internal tools through APIs, webhooks and MCP connectors, with only the access each task needs. Where a system has no API, a controlled browser or computer-use agent may be an option, though it needs stricter limits and testing.

What happens when the agent gets something wrong?

Limits and approval steps stop most errors from causing harm, and logs show exactly what happened. Low-confidence cases go to a person with full context. We review errors, add them to the test set, and fix the cause. Live monitoring catches new failure patterns early.

Who owns what you build?

Ownership of the code, prompts, configuration and documentation is confirmed in the project agreement. We document what we build, including the architecture, data flows and settings, so your team, or another team, can run and extend it.
